A prison inmate has commited suicide by hanging himself at Palayamkottai Central Prison on 03.03.2013. He was convicted for murdering his wife in 2006. He has no visitors from family although he has two young daughters and elderly parent. This scenario led him depression to frustration. Mental disturbance took away his life. As it was first day of GNE work in this central jail we paid homage to this departed inmate and today started work with most depressed prisoners. We will ease them from mental trauma by supporting their children and bridging family members with prisoners.  http://www.dinamalar.com/district_detail.asp?id=659726 For More details Please follow us www.facebook.com/Dreamccc

Let me not pray to be sheltered from dangers - Tagore

Let me not pray to be sheltered from dangers
but to be fearless in facing them.
Let me not beg for the stilling of my pain
but for the heart to conquer it.
Let me not look for allies in life's battlefield
but to my own strength.
Let me not crave in anxious fear to be saved
but hope for the patience to win my freedom.
Grant that I may not be a coward,
feeling Your mercy in my success alone;
But let me find the the grasp of Your hand in my failure.

Terrible fear day in my Life

Dear Friends,

The following scenario gave me terrible fear about my future life.

I was studied in Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda College in Chennai and stayed in College Campus Hostel. where all the students in hostel must attend Prayer session everyday morning at 5 Am and Evening at 5 PM. Otherwise they can't get their lunch. there was attendance system in every prayer session.

In the first year, I have attended all the prayer session. In winter season, due to over breezing air, Curd was main food items, There was not hot water for drink and Bath, So I was sick by attending the prayers in early morning and consumption of all cold items. I had been admitted in the hospital for more than one week because of over cold, Breathing Problem. severe fever. and spent lot of money for my treatment. My parents were scared about my conditions. Then I slowly recovered from that illness.

By the second year in winter season, I was very careful about my health but there was no excuse for me from prayer session, so I must attend the session to pursue knowledge. I was trying to attend all the prayer session with health precautionary. but unfortunately my health started to show the same symptoms again. To prevent illness, I was started to skip three prayer session in the mornings on that week. and had lunch in college canteen.

One day my college secretary saw me in the college canteen during lunch time and checked the prayer attendance I was not present. so he immediately asked me to vacate hostel. I was tried to explain my health complication, and request him if I go out of this hostel then it will be difficult for me to continue my studies and cried at him and begged in front of him but he was not understandable, because I was asked him some question about the college administration earlier some days ago ( That I wasn't even remember at that moment) so It was strikes in his mind. He said, "Vacate the hostel" then I requested him again. "Please forgive me, there is no option for my life If you send me out of this hostel"

Then He said simply to me "Go and Die" then I felt there is no point to cry in front of him. So I went to my home with my friend because I had medium fever,

I explained all the scenario to my mother and I told her that I cannot stay any more in the hostel. So I need to hire a room near by the college to continue the education, and asked her please arrange some money for my stay. It was quite lot of amount for her to arrange immediately so she simply said same words that my college secretary said at me that " GO and DIE" after listened the same from my mother. I was scattered, my heart broken, I cried lot, thought to commit suicide, very fearful day. Even though I knew my mother didn't say from her heart but How can I going to tackle the issue? Will i continue my studies or not? will my life going to be dark?

So, many fearful question made me think more and gave me courage and I responded very well to the situation. I talked with my close friend about my situation, 5 of my friends voluntarily vacated the hostel and share money to hire a house near by college. then we all came to college from the house and ate in hotel.

But  Within  one month My college secretary has been transferred from our college because He vacated lot of student from the hostel like me then one poor boy attempted for suicide in the hostel premises and friends are rescued him. I took this injustice in my hand and gathered all my friends. then I was instrument to  carry out strike in our college and demand to transfer the secretary otherwise we will not attend class. All the faculties, Students were supported us. It was successful ended by transferring my college secretary from our college.

Then the next Academic Year, I was contested in college student union election and won the election and became student union President.

Thank you

World Plastic Carry Bags Free Day - Signature Campaign

A war on plastic

Last Updated : 04 Jul 2011 12:26:02 PM IST

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Age and physique have never been inevitable criteria for professional success. And especially when protecting the environment from the menace of the plastic, the disability may add to your vigour. Such are the cases of K R Raja and Nicholas Kimuyu, a Kenyan, who, in spite of their physical limitations, ventured to conduct a ‘better bags campaign’ as part of the World Plastic Carry Bag-Free Day which was observed on Sunday.
Nicholas, who is partially blind, and Raja, who relies on crutches to move around, were instrumental in conducting an exhibition of  ‘’alternate bags’’ and a signature campaign against plastic bags that cause irreparable damage to the planet. ‘’Using plastic bags can’t be called a trifling problem. The ill-effects and health hazards they create can’t be ignored,” said Nicholas. The exhibition and the signature campaign were joint ventures of  the International Institute Of Social Entrepreneurs, Kovalam, and Thanal, a city-based NGO. The main theme of the exhibition was to prevent the use of plastic bags and promote eco-friendly re-usable bags. Various fraternities like Blue Triangle Stitching Unit of YWCA have decided to join hands with the efforts of Nicholas and Raju, who are both in their twenties. The effigy of a demon made by noted artist Easwar S from plastic bags was a big attraction at the exhibition.A bunch of foreign individuals from across the globe had come to express their solidarity to the cause.”The intention of these efforts is to create an impression on the public that localised events can contribute a lot in eradicating the plastic materials from their daily use. A better understanding of the world is needed to make it a better place to live,” said Catherine Lee, a  journalist and environmental activist from Texas. “And let others live,’’ added Karel and Peggy-Jane from Remarkable foundation, Netherlands.
